In Maths we learnt how to count and order different number of objects up to ten and how to recognise the numerals and their names in words. We then moved onto focusing on a number, specifically finding 1 more and 1 less of a given number. We learnt new maths symbols when comparing numbers called ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’ and learnt to make the symbols with our hands.
In English we read a new exciting text called 'Wild'. In this book we read about different animals and described their characteristics. We have enjoyed making the main character from our text out of play dough and have written simple instructions on how we made it. We then continued looking at the character 'Wild' who visited the city. Through this story, we learnt about the difference between being in the wild and city life and have written simple sentences concentrating on capital letters and full stops.
We enjoyed our Science lessons observing the weather each day this week and learnt about the change in seasons and delivered our own weather forecast in class.
In English, we wrote our own instructions for making soup, based on the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’. We enjoyed the role-play activities pretending to be the characters from Pumpkin soup, focussing on their emotions. We looked at different types of pumpkins in their English lessons and created a word bank of adjectives to describe them. We wrote a letter of apology linked with 'Pumpkin Soup' - asking our friend to come back home.
In Maths, we played different games to learn number bonds to 10 and 20, looked at family number facts and used the part-part-whole method. We looked at multiplication, counting in groups and identified groups that are equal and groups that are unequal. We also looked at the groups arranged in an array. We identified common 2D and 3D shapes and learnt about their properties.
In Art, we made a collage with a range of materials, linking this in with their Science, making predictions about materials that would float or sink. We also enjoyed learning to weave using paper strips, creating our own patterns.
During Anti-bullying week, we discussed being a good friend and wrote an acrostic poem on friendship.
In History, we enjoyed learning about the Gunpowder plot. We now have a better understanding as to why we celebrate it with fireworks.
