Sport Premium funding
As stated by the Department for Education the purpose of the PE Sport Premium funding is to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport.
This means that it can:
- develop or add to the PE and sport activities that the school already offers
- make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
Take a look at our article in the Youth Sport Trust Magazine which highlights how we spend the Sport Premium funding to give our pupils additional opportunities in sport.
The DFE states
'Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6.'
'Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.'

Extra-curricular sports activities
We offer a range of extra-curricular sports activities to further inspire and motivate pupils. Children have the opportunity to try new sports and activities as well as develop previously learnt skills. Clubs take place before school, during lunch time and after school.
Extra-Curricular Sports include: Digital Phonics, Ballet, Choir, Recorder, Band, Funky Fitness, Musicals & Movies Club, Study Support (Times Table Rock Star), Football, Touch Typing, French, computing and Coding, Embroidery, Musical theatre and Taekwon-Do.

In addition to extra-curricular sports clubs, pupils benefit from attending a number of sporting events and competitions organised by Cardwell staff (involving other schools in the Borough) or events staged by the Borough.
