Wellbeing and Physical Activity
Physical activity is important for a wide variety of reasons. It helps maintain a healthy weight, increases strength in muscles and bones and can even improve concentration. Regular exercise combined with a healthy diet is vital to any child's development and lays the foundations for a healthy life. Exercise also relieves stress and promotes relaxation.
Try to limit the amount of time you spend watching tv and playing computer games and take a 'brain break'- replace those activities with something physical. Children need at least 30 minutes of daily exercise but will benefit from even more than this. Getting out at the moment is tricky, but 'getting active' is possible. Here are some fun indoor fitness activities for the whole family to enjoy together!
Scientific research shows that practicing mindfulness improves attention and reduces stress, as well as increasing your ability to regulate emotions and feel compassion and empathy. Mindfulness awareness has positive effects on mental health and helps children with optimism and planning and organisational skills. Activities that train your brain, or 'thinking exercises' will also improve your attention and give you brain a workout!
